Donated RECs to Help Avoid Nearly 55,000 Pounds of CO2 Emissions

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Oct. 10, 2013) — For the fourth consecutive year, the Rhode Island Manufacturers Association will “go green” at its annual manufacturing renaissance gala by offsetting power consumed at the event with renewable energy certificates donated by Constellation NewEnergy, Inc., the group’s long time energy partner.

Renewable energy certificates (RECs) will match 100 percent of the estimated electricity consumption at the event, which will take place Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013 at the Renaissance Providence Downtown Hotel.

The donation of RECs will avoid approximately 54,810 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions from fossil-fueled generation.

The theme of this year’s renaissance event is workforce development and education and the need to highlight the career opportunities available in manufacturing.  More than 200 members of the manufacturing industry and other organizations throughout Rhode Island are expected to attend.

“REC purchases support the development of renewable energy sources and represent a simple and affordable way for manufacturers to advance sustainability objectives,” said Bill McCourt, executive director for the Rhode Island Manufacturers Association.  “We believe all RI manufacturers would benefit from the development of comprehensive energy strategies that incorporate renewable solutions.  Reducing emissions is good for our sector, our state and our customers.”

“We’ve proudly sponsored this event since the formation of the Energy Program in 2006 and look forward to continuing a relationship that is providing Rhode Island businesses with affordable renewable energy choices,” said Ed Wilson, vice president of associations, Constellation.  “The energy landscape is evolving rapidly and creating new opportunities for RIMA members to manage costs and energy usage and incorporate sustainable options.”
